Author of WHITE STAG

POSTED ON January 6, 2019 BY Austine IN Interview

It’s Sunday and the start of a new week! Let’s get things rolling with the WHITE STAG blog tour from Wednesday Books! Today I’m sharing a super quick Q & A with author Kara Barbieri. Her debut White Stag releases this coming Tuesday! More info on the author and book below!

About Kara Barbieri

Kara Barbieri is a writer living in the tiny town of Hayward, Wisconsin. An avid   fantasy fan, she began writing White Stag at eighteen and posting it to Wattpad     soon after under the name of ‘Pandean’. When she’s not writing, you can find her     marathoning Buffy the Vampire Slayer, reviving gothic fashion, and jamming to      synthpop.

Quick Q&A

Walk us through a day in the life of Kara Barbieri.

Currently it’s quite boring. Mainly get up at 10am-12pm, eat, get on the computer, browse internet while procrastinating, write, work out, and then go to sleep by 11/12. I’m hoping to go to college next fall and have a part time job before then so hopefully it’s better soon! It’s also colder than a witch’s tit out right now which means that I’m stuck inside.

Your characters are sent into the Hunger Games. Who wins?

I like to joke that that WHITE STAG is “Hunger Games on acid and also there’s a magical deer” so this is a tough question. Janneke is the most determined character out of my entire group. She’s The Determinator. Soren is also skilled enough but I feel like if it was between him and Janneke, he’d chose her life over his.

If this is not based on skills then Rekke is totally winning because she was a young precious bean and her fate in WHITE STAG was awful and I hate myself for it.

This morning you woke up with the ability to time travel to only one time period. Where (or more accurately “when”) would you go?

I need more info on this. Can I only travel to one time period and then I’m stuck there? Or can I travel back? Because I currently like the present right now—I mean my books are coming out! Also I like being able to vote and have piercings and not be killed for being gay or being in a forced marriage or in general all the nasty stuff in the past. Wouldn’t want to be stuck there. But if I could also travel back I’d probably go to…I still don’t know.

About the Book

Quick Q & A with Kara Barbieri
White Stag
by Kara Barbieri
Series: Permafrost #1
Published on January 8, 2019 by Wednesday Books
Format: Hardcover
Pages: 368
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

The first book in a brutally stunning series where a young girl finds herself becoming more monster than human and must uncover dangerous truths about who she is and the place that has become her home.

As the last child in a family of daughters, seventeen-year-old Janneke was raised to be the male heir. While her sisters were becoming wives and mothers, she was taught to hunt, track, and fight. On the day her village was burned to the ground, Janneke—as the only survivor—was taken captive by the malicious Lydian and eventually sent to work for his nephew Soren.

Janneke’s survival in the court of merciless monsters has come at the cost of her connection to the human world. And when the Goblin King’s death ignites an ancient hunt for the next king, Soren senses an opportunity for her to finally fully accept the ways of the brutal Permafrost. But every action he takes to bring her deeper into his world only shows him that a little humanity isn’t bad—especially when it comes to those you care about.

Through every battle they survive, Janneke’s loyalty to Soren deepens. After dangerous truths are revealed, Janneke must choose between holding on or letting go of her last connections to a world she no longer belongs to. She must make the right choice to save the only thing keeping both worlds from crumbling.
