I wanted to do something a bit different this week. So far all of my Cover ❤️ posts have focused on books I’m anticipating for more than just their descriptions. This week I want to mention a series that I adore the covers for…but I don’t like the books.
Has this ever happened to you? You pick up a book based on the cover because it looks good, the synopsis is interesting enough, but you don’t like it in the end? That’s how I felt about The Selection (among other books featuring beautiful girls in ballgowns because it’s apparently a trend — marketing!). I let the cover distract me from what turned out to be a not-so-great book (and yes, unpopular opinion, I know — I have those quite often lately).
But just look at these covers. So pretty!
These books just weren’t for me but I can’t deny that the marketing team killed it with them because I bought the first one anyway.

GOODREADS
For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.
Are you a sucker for ballgowns on covers too?
