Prepare for a dose of magical realism in The Secret Ingredient of Wishes, featuring a woman with the ability to grant wishes and pies that keep secrets. Rachel is lost. Like really lost. She has the gift to grant wishes which appear to her on little slips of paper that, if she sees/reads, come true. So she runs and ends up in Nowhere, North Carolina, a […]
I was prepared going into Ever the Hunted to love it. To want to buy ALL the copies because I wouldn’t be able to get enough. So when I started reading and put it down within a few chapters, I knew that dream was going to be shattered. This YA fantasy is every book I’ve read before. I had the same issues with Shadow Fall in the […]
Much like the first two installments of ReMade, episode 3 of season 1 followed a new character and how they came to join the rag-tag group stranded in a new world. Thankfully, this time around the author got all the character backstory out of the way before returning to present day. I’ll be honest, the lack of information about the world of ReMade had me […]
Trial By Fire by Josephine Angelini is an explosive fantasy novel that kept me wanting more. It takes place in a world where there are many worlds that only a few can see. Lily is a normal girl like anyone else - minus the fact that she’s allergic to literally everything, and she can have epileptic attacks at the drop of a hat. She’s a […]
Hello everyone! I hope you’ve had a wonderful week. For me, it’s been a bit stressful with NaNoWriMo almost over and being super behind and I started thinking about all things I don’t know about being a writer in the publishing world, whether it’s the “traditional” route or self-published. Which means that I’m definitely not the only one thinking about that so after a lot […]
We open to Lexie, a teen girl on the eve of her 15th birthday and guess what? She has magic! Add in a few trope-type sisters, a mysterious but wise older man who somehow makes her understand that magic exists better than her own family, and you have the start of this story. I got all of 3% before putting this one down and picking […]
I read a post the other day. This post, in fact, by Emily Rose of Rose Read that talks about the book community, about how we tend to focus on certain books. And it’s true. We do. From what I’ve noticed, they tend to be either new or unreleased titles. I’m not putting the blame on any one person and know that I, myself, am […]
Returning to the world of ReMade, Holden, Seyah, and Umta from episode 1 are now on the ground of what may very well be an alien planet. They find themselves greeted by others who know as little as they do about what happened to them. This time around, we see the world from May’s perspective, a Harvard hopeful who’s dreams have shifted to survival in […]
Timekeeper by Tara Sim is the first steampunk novel I have read, and I have to say…I’m pretty impressed. It was an LGBTQ+ fantasy novel with mythology roots woven in. Definitely my kind of book. The fact that it took me so long to finish sucks because some things were read really late at night when I couldn’t sleep. It was the only time I […]
Pre-orders are great. It’s like Christmas every release day/week when a book magically arrives on your doorstep. And what’s better than a pre-order WITH SWAG! I have a terrible time keeping track of all the pre-order incentives going on for any given book but thinking about posting more of them if y’all would be interested in having a place to see what’s out there. If […]
