The paranormal war that engulfed New Orleans seven years ago is over. But the battle for the city is just beginning . . .
Claire Connolly is a Sensitive, infected with magic when the Veil that divides humanity from the world beyond fell. Magic can easily consume and destroy a Sensitive, and if Claire’s secret is discovered she’ll be locked into the walled district of Devil’s Isle along with every other Paranormal left in the city.
Bounty hunter Liam Quinn discovered Claire’s secret, but refused to turn her in. Together they saved New Orleans from the resurgence of magic that nearly destroyed it. But now a dangerous cult is on the rise, and it will take both Claire and Liam—and magical allies within Devil’s Isle’s towering walls—to defeat the occult threat before magic corrupts them both...
Once again, Chloe Neill killed it. The Sight picks up after the events of the first installment in the Devil’s Isle series, The Veil, with Claire and Liam on the hunt for a wraith. This time around, however, the Paras aren’t causing trouble. Our heroes are up against some of their own, humans on a quest to save the world from the evils of magic. What could be more dangerous than zealots with a cause and readiness to die for it?
I found myself quickly falling back into NOLA (New Orleans, LA) and the Zone where Claire insists on carving out her life in the Royal Mercantile shop. Neill’s writing instantly captivates and keeps you lost in her world as the Zone falls under yet another evil. I liked that the story took a turn from the first book and focused less on magic and more on the humans involved (not that I dislike the paranormal by any means, but often urban fantasies seem to only think about the magical side of the story). Unlike many UFs I’ve read recently, The Sight isn’t action-based so much as politics, the inner workings of the government within NOLA following the opening of the Veil. If any of this sounds weird to you, I highly suggest reading the first book. This isn’t a series you can read out-of-order, as Neill provides the minimum background recap in this installment and it picks up following the events of The Veil.
Now I know you’re probably all wondering about Claire and Liam (I sure as hell was). The Veil left our bounty hunter/trainee duo in quite the conflicting state with Liam being the primary cause for all the tension. I get it, dude, you’ve got a lot on your plate and you don’t want to hurt Claire but she’s a big girl. I think she can handle it. All that lusty romantic tension built throughout The Sight until breaking. All I can say is FINALLY. If Neill hadn’t given us something regarding these two in this book I would not have been a happy reader.
I think Claire is one of my favorite UF/PNR heroines. She doesn’t have the constant sarcasm that I’ve often seen but at the same time she’s witty, she knows her limits and when to push them. She’s not afraid to get into the thick of things if it means saving her friends, but she also thinks about herself and what her actions will mean for the life she’s trying to have in NOLA. That self preservation combined with loyalty makes her a conflicting but interesting and multi-dimensional character with a personality that I think a lot of readers can relate to, even just in part. And Liam acts as a great counterbalance with his contrasting but complimenting character. The two together are definitely working their way up my favorites list.
What I love about Neill’s characters, though, is they always stay true to themselves. All of that romance moved at a pace that worked for the characters so I couldn’t be unhappy with it even if the outcome hadn’t been what I wanted. And in the midst of these two, we get to see more of Delta and Claire’s friends. Tadji gets a new role despite a fear of magic, stepping up to the plate and getting things done. Gunnar is his ever-lawful self. And Delta’s people are becoming prominent players, especially the angel Malachi. I never felt like any of the cast was short-changed, or that their stories will never be told because each has been spotlighted now and there is still more to come.
Speaking of, I need the next book. I know this one comes out this year but DAMN that ending. Talk. About. A. Cliffhanger. You may regret reading The Sight when it’s released because you’ll have to wait so long for book #3. Combined with the foreshadowing in The Veil, I don’t even have to guess — I know — the next book is going to be the best yet.
If you haven’t read The Veil, you should probably get on that. And while you’re at it take a look at Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires series. The same excellent writing in every book with a bit more sass and plenty of vamps to keep any paranormal fan hooked.

You are not wrong about the ending! Loved this book as I have loved ALL I’ve read by Chloe!
I think Liam’s grandmother was actually my favorite character - even with the small number of scenes she played a part in. 🙂
none; never read this series
I’m a long time fan of Chloe’s Chicagoland Vampires series her Dark Elite series (I wish there were more books in this series)! I’m just getting started on this series but I can already tell that Chloe has done it again!!
So excited for this next installment. My favorite character is Eleanor Aresnault, Liam’s grandmother.
