What is your most interesting bookish memory or experience?
I’ve never had the opportunity to attend a book signing or conference of any kind, but back in high school, our “librarian” was also the tech guy (budget cuts meant a lot of combined positions). He had no interest in being librarian and proceeded to sit in his little office behind his computer all day. I had my mornings free for independent studies so I often sat in the library for lack of other spaces to occupy, and I knew the assistant librarian pretty well. We decided to see how much the librarian didn’t notice and proceeded to change around all of the displays around the library to better display books that people were checking out versus all the reference titles he set up last minute before sneaking back to his office.
We put all of our favorite books on display and re-organized each of the main display shelves into pyramids and castles, etc. It wasn’t a huge moment, and he never noticed (or didn’t care if he did), but it was fun and brightened the day for a few of us in a dreary school.
