#FF & Standalones That Should Be Series

Name one or more standalone books that you wish was a series

In my experience, people I meet either love or hate standalones. Those that dislike them usually love series. While I tend to fall more on that side of the tracks, there are a few standalone novels that amazed me and all I wanted was more.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

Oh goodness, if this book was a series I would happily die with them crushed to my chest. This book was one I put off reading for a while, for no particular reason other than I didn’t own it and had others books on my shelves that I wanted to read. But oh, when I finally picked it up I was gone. The mysticism and magic of it all swept me away and all I wanted was more.

Uprooted by Naomi Novik

I read this one in the last few months and man, was I surprised. Though slow to start, the story picked up to the point that I couldn’t believe everything could happen in just one book. There had to be more. And there wasn’t. But I wish there was!

Spindle’s End by Robin McKinley

It’s been a while since I read this book, a favorite of mine in high school. I remember it with a lot of fond memories so I have to assume that it would be a good series (?). On Goodreads, it’s listed as being a part of the “Folktales” series but it really stands on its own in terms of story and characters.

What standalone novels do you wish were series?

Well hello there! I see you’ve reached the end of the post. Bummer. But perhaps I may interest you in a comment? And in case you were wondering, I’m a 20-something college grad with a piece of paper that says I know about wildlife. Reviewer of books since 2011, amateur photographer by day, and aspiring author by night. I believe animals (and books) are better than people.
