Cover ❤ Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

Today I had the chance to spend some time with my grandmother, helping around her house and whatnot. And as an avid reader herself, we obviously had to talk about books at some point and she remarked on the cover of one of my current reads. So I thought about all the beautiful covers I’ve seen and wanted to share those that I can’t stop oogling.

Cover ❤ is for readers to show off their favorite covers each week. While I’ll be posting on Mondays, feel free to join in on any day of the week (or multiple times each week if you feel inclined). Glazed eyes and drooling encouraged.

I’ll be completely honest: I’m 90% more likely to pick up a book (though not necessarily buy) with an eye-catching cover so what I see first has a huge impact on what I end up buying.

Do you judge books by their covers?

This week for the first post of this series, I picked a book that I ordered not one, but 2 copies of, one of each edition. And with its upcoming release, what better timing? Without further ado, as I’m sure you already know the book because you smart cookies read the title, my selection for the week:

Book Depository / Amazon / Barnes & Noble

In a land where three suns almost never set, a fledgling killer joins a school of assassins, seeking vengeance against the powers who destroyed her family.

Daughter of an executed traitor, Mia Corvere is barely able to escape her father’s failed rebellion with her life. Alone and friendless, she hides in a city built from the bones of a dead god, hunted by the Senate and her father’s former comrades. But her gift for speaking with the shadows leads her to the door of a retired killer, and a future she never imagined.

Now, Mia is apprenticed to the deadliest flock of assassins in the entire Republic—the Red Church. If she bests her fellow students in contests of steel, poison and the subtle arts, she’ll be inducted among the Blades of the Lady of Blessed Murder, and one step closer to the vengeance she desires. But a killer is loose within the Church’s halls, the bloody secrets of Mia’s past return to haunt her, and a plot to bring down the entire congregation is unfolding in the shadows she so loves.

Will she even survive to initiation, let alone have her revenge?

The cover featured above is for the US edition but I also ordered the UK edition because that cover. *drools*

In fact, I actually like the UK version better but I love both.

Edit: Crushing Cinders has a great post about The Complexity of Covers featuring a vote on the cover of And I Darken by Kiersten White. Perfect timing! Go check it out!

Have you fallen in love with a cover?

Comment with the title and edition, and I’ll share it next Monday with my pick. Or post about it yourself!

Well hello there! I see you’ve reached the end of the post. Bummer. But perhaps I may interest you in a comment? And in case you were wondering, I’m a 20-something college grad with a piece of paper that says I know about wildlife. Reviewer of books since 2011, amateur photographer by day, and aspiring author by night. I believe animals (and books) are better than people.

Nevernight has to have one of the most interesting covers I’ve ever seen! The more I see it the more I love it.
