Now THAT is a good looking stack of books 😍 Now THAT is a good looking stack of books 😍

Happy February! What's something you're hoping to accomplish this month?

THE SHORT: I'd like to read a few of these January 2021 releases I haven't gotten to yet! THE FOREVER SEA and WINGS OF EBONY are two in particular I want to tackle!

―

THE LONG: I can't believe January is already over! It felt both ridiculously long and short all at once. But WOW was it a good month for books! Here's a stack of all the January releases I got this month either from publishers, through pre-orders, or purchases at Barnes & Noble. There's only one book missing (A VOW SO BOLD AND DEADLY) which I pre-ordered from an indie and hasn't yet shipped which I expected after the author mentioned there were some delays.

A thank you to @disneybooks for the copy of LORE, @titanbooks for HALL OF SMOKE, @orbitbooks_us for TEH MASK OF MIRRORS, and @wednesdaybooks for SHADOW CITY!

Looking toward February, I have a ton of bookish content ready to share with all of you AND a mini author interview going live TOMORROW (and possibly a giveaway...) so keep an eye out for that.

As to my question, I'm personally working on trying to better balance reading/blogging and writing, starting with fixing my sleep schedule 😂 Which might sound odd but I've gone near nocturnal while still having an 8-5 job (even if it's remote right now) so my hours of productivity and general exhaustion are constantly working against me. So. Time to fix that!

Hope you all have a wonderful rest of your week!

Do you have an interest in tarot? Own any cool dec Do you have an interest in tarot? Own any cool decks?

Cat in Ava Morgyn's upcoming novel THE SALT IN OUR BLOOD is left at her grandmother's house with nothing but a tarot deck so I thought this was the perfect time to chat tarot!

THE SHORT: I love tarot and have 7 decks so far. I have a few featured here (including my tarot coins!) and have a few others stacked in a drawer. I'm not GREAT at tarot readings but I like using the decks for writing my stories sometimes.

―

THE LONG: My fascination with tarot knows no bounds 😂 Beyond my current decks, I have two more I backed on Kickstarter, and I don't have it here but one of my new favorites is my Pokemon deck.

Also featured here are the Marigold Tarot (bottom right), Line Defined (bottom left), Everyday Tarot (right center), Tarot of the Divine (top center), and tarot coins (scattered everywhere)

I think what I find most interesting about tarot is how much it can bring to the surface during readings, things you might not have been thinking about until a particular card comes up. It's so cool!

And if you're a tarot fan, THE SALT IN OUR BLOOD might just be the book for you! Take a trip to New Orleans with Cat as she tries to unravel her family's past and explore a tense relationship with her mother. Thank you to @avamorgyn for the early copy!

BONUS! If you pre-order THE SALT IN OUR BLOOD, you can submit your receipt to receive a book-themed tarot card with a mini reading by the author, signed bookplate, Mardi Gras beads, and be entered to win a one-on-one tarot reading from the author! Check out @avamorgyn's website for more info.

I'll drop the synopsis in the comments for anyone interested!

Alright. Hypothetically... if you spilled a bunch Alright. Hypothetically... if you spilled a bunch of magical ink, what's the LAST animal you'd want to see emerge from it?

THE SHORT: I think I'd have originally said some sort of large predator that would want to eat me (maybe a dinosaur?) but after reading #Inkblot, I'm thinking a cat might be just as terrifying though for different reasons.

―

THE LONG: Today's "stack" is a little different because I wanted to share the current issues of @inkblotcomic! There are currently 5 issues out right now (though I believe Issue 6 releases next week...), and here I have the first 4 (the 5th is the alternative cover for Issue 1). My copy of Issue 5 is still on its way but will hopefully be here soon!

This is such a fun comic series about a powerful sorceress trying to fix a problem of her own creation -- a cat who causes mischief through time and space. And if you've ever had a cat, you KNOW they would be one of the worst animals you could (accidentally) release on a timeline.

If you prefer graphic novel volumes rather than individual comic books, Volume 1 of Inkblot releases this coming April and includes the first 6 issues!

INKBLOT is only the second comic series where I've bought the individual issues (the first being V.E. Schwab's STEEL PRINCE). Usually I just get the graphic novel volumes instead. But now I'm hooked and have my third comic book coming (LABYRINTH MASQUERADE for anyone curious)

So. Not so short version but:
1) check out @inkblotcomic, and give them a follow for regular cat shenanigans content in your feed!
2) let me know if you have any comic series you keep up with in the comments!

What happened to January? Am I the only one here a What happened to January? Am I the only one here a little amazed that we've 1) made it almost to the end of the month, and 2) that it's here already?

Are there any books you're determined to read before the end of January?

THE SHORT: I was looking at my TBR progress so far (or lack thereof) and since it's only 12 books, I want to try and read one a month. This month I'm hoping to still fit in PHOENIX EXTRAVAGANT!

―

THE LONG: Why oh WHY am I still sitting on this book?!?! I want to read it. I KNOW I want to read it. But somehow the time has disappeared and we're now at the end of January and, um, what happened 😂

I'm giving myself a break (a bit) because the first 20 days of this month were a lot from stress alone, but also work stuff too. Though I think this weekend is the perfect opportunity to just sit and read ALL the things (in between the virtual convention panels I'm planning to watch)

So. PHOENIX EXTRAVAGANT this weekend. Fun panels. And hopefully some writing.

I should also probably sleep at some point? Maybe? 😅

Let me know if there are any books you still want to read before the end of the month in the comments!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Dragons. Art. Revolution.

Gyen Jebi isn’t a fighter or a subversive. They just want to paint.

One day they’re jobless and desperate; the next, Jebi finds themself recruited by the Ministry of Armor to paint the mystical sigils that animate the occupying government’s automaton soldiers.

But when Jebi discovers the depths of the Razanei government’s horrifying crimes—and the awful source of the magical pigments they use—they find they can no longer stay out of politics.

What they can do is steal Arazi, the ministry’s mighty dragon automaton, and find a way to fight…
