Darcy was floating on a cloud of pure passion. Everywhere he touched, Warrick was leaving a mark on her, forever changing her. She could feel it through her skin and muscle, through bone and into her soul. It was as if he was changing her. And she welcomed it…
Her power is a blessing.
Born on the Isle of Skye, Darcy is a beautiful woman of many gifts. Fortune-telling is her forte, and she remains the only Druid who could unlock the secrets—and desires—of a Dragon King. His name is Warrick. And now that Darcy’s seen into his dragon heart, nothing will ever be the same…
His passion is a curse.
Warrick never intended to put Darcy in harm’s way. But ever since she revealed a shocking truth, Darcy has been hunted by the Dark Fae, who want to use her powers for their own evil purposes. Now it’s up to Warrick to do whatever it takes to keep the woman who sets his soul on fire safe. But protecting Darcy means putting himself—and his entire race—in jeopardy. Is his desperate longing for one woman worth the risk of losing everything… for eternity?

Alright what happened?
Last book, I was so happy with the romance and the way the story was going because it was actually going somewhere for once, and the romance felt real, and it was all good. And then Soul Scorched happened.
The romance, what was up with that? Warrick and Darcy were interesting enough characters for the purpose of the story… on their own. Then suddenly they’re together because he happens to be the one assigned to protect her? I think this was the most far-fetched of the romances so far.
And please, can we stop with the same info dumps EVERY BOOK. The thing with romance series is that sometimes you can read them out of order so having that extra info is helpful. HOWEVER, I wouldn’t consider this to be one of those series because everything is SO interconnected. It just annoys me and I end up skimming pages because it’s the same thing in every book. The same “we don’t know” or “we can’t share” or whatever. The mysteries are the same. The history lesson is the same. I’m tired of it.
But I liked Darcy. She’s a sassy druid, at least until Warrick is around and then she becomes yet another woman for the Dragon Kings to rescue. As for Warrick, he’s fascinated with humans and thinks it’s some big secret. Only likes to work alone. But SUDDENLY he sees Darcy and has to be around her. None of it fit and he became a flat character with a few personality quirks to set him apart from the other Kings. Honestly, I was more interested in his partner on this trip, Thorn, who has his book coming up, I believe.
These books need to step up their game, though. I had hoped to see the story in the last book expanded on to include some new element in this one but it’s still a Con vs Ulrik story with both being bullheaded idiots. Imagine what the books would be like if one of them stopped with all the theatrics.
Want to know why I really read this book the whole way through instead of skipping to the next? Rhi. It always comes back to her. Her Dragon King lover still hasn’t been revealed and I saw she’s supposed to get her book at some point but not until book 12 or later from the looks of it which means that little secret likely won’t be revealed until then. Which is also frustrating. It’s one thing to tease readers for a couple books and have a big reveal, another to make the mystery the only thing connecting two characters (or in this case Rhi with the Dragon Kings).
It better be some spectacular reveal.
Very disappointed with this one, probably my least favorite of the series so far.
