Meet the Characters of Elysium Girls
by Kate Pentecost
Sal Wilkerson - Sal Wilkerson, the protagonist of Elysium Girls, is an insecure young woman who has been doing her best to survive in Elysium after being shunned for most of her life for predicting a life-saving rain that never came. She is coming into her own as the successor to Mother Morevna, the witch who saved and now controls Elysium, Oklahoma, and is learning both magic and her own importance as well as how to stand up for what she believes is right.
Asa Skander - Not really a person, don’t believe him! Asa is a daemon given human form by the goddess of Life in order to tip the scales in her favor. However, Asa has a mind of his own and just enough of an obsessive interest in human affairs to go completely rogue and ruin everything.
Olivia Rosales - Exiled from Elysium for murdering her stepfather, Olivia has been living in the desert beyond the walls of Elysium for years. She is the leader of the girl gang Sal is adopted into and is fiercely loyal to her girls. Family is of the utmost importance to Olivia, and she has a bone to pick with Elysium-and anyone else who threatens her newfound family.
Mother Morevna - Stern, strict, and mysterious, with her tattooed hands, the ancient Mother Morevna has shaped Elysium into an image she finds truly just. She is a controlling matriarch with the greater good in mind. As a trapdoor witch, her skill with magic knows no comparison. But Mother Morevna has a dark secret waiting to be uncovered.
Susanah Mihecoby - After being taken from her family and escaping a boarding school for Native American youth, all Susanah wants is to find her family. But when she is trapped in the game created by the goddesses of Life and Death, she finds a family in Olivia’s gang-and a little abandoned girl she names Mowse. Susanah is an inventor and uses her inventions to connect with the culture she has been denied while building her own culture with her new family. Her mechanical cavalry are the main weapons against the goddesses and their game.
Lucy Arbor - The prettiest girl in Elysium, Lucy is an entrepreneur who knows how to get things done-and is Sal’s only friend. As an underground cosmetics seller, she knows her way around Elysium, and when Dust Sickness strikes, Lucy isn’t afraid to use her skills and inquiring mind to help the sick of Elysium while trying to get to the bottom of the Dust Sickness epidemic and stop it once and for all.

In this sweeping Dust Bowl-inspired fantasy, a ten-year game between Life and Death pits the walled Oklahoma city of Elysium-including a girl gang of witches and a demon who longs for humanity-against the supernatural in order to judge mankind.
When Sal is named Successor to Mother Morevna, a powerful witch and leader of Elysium, she jumps at the chance to prove herself to the town. Ever since she was a kid, Sal has been plagued by false visions of rain, and though people think she's a liar, she knows she's a leader. Even the arrival of enigmatic outsider Asa-a human-obsessed demon in disguise-doesn't shake her confidence in her ability. Until a terrible mistake results in both Sal and Asa's exile into the Desert of Dust and Steel.
Face-to-face with a brutal, unforgiving landscape, Sal and Asa join a gang of girls headed by another Elysium exile-and young witch herself-Olivia Rosales. In order to atone for their mistake, they create a cavalry of magic powered, scrap metal horses to save Elysium from the coming apocalypse. But Sal, Asa, and Olivia must do more than simply tip the scales in Elysium's favor-only by reinventing the rules can they beat the Life and Death at their own game.
